First in a series of four split releases from 2009. These were a lot of fun to put together. Originally released as limited edition cdrs. Long since sold out.

I approached German Shepherd because I really like his lofi 4-track guitar excursions and the ancient sound quality they have “beautifully destroyed” I think I once said. Andy went on to start his own Sunrise Acoustics label that issued further GS works as well as a split cassette of which I also submitted a track, but more on that later.

He has not been as active in recent times and I hope he wows us with something new very soon. His debut solo work encapsulates my love of diy as well as lofi recordings. Created with guitar on an ancient 4-track recorder; Beehive certainly behaves like its namesake. The recording buzzes, hums and hisses in an archaic fashion as if it were created during the birth of audio itself, somehow exuding more warmth and character than a lot of material created utilising more modern means. His sound has definitely evolved since this (40 Degrees is another fav) and one should investigate the rest of his catalogue, but Beehive remains special to me as my introduction to the world of German Shepherd. Head on over to Sunrise Acoustics and download away.
